Lessors – improve asset value and overall control of an aircraft

Today’s practices

Aircraft health monitoring is subject to several standard ways of determining it:

  • Maintenance documentation coming from various checks, or
  • Through OEM platforms which allow monitoring trends within a certain time frame.

For the latter, it is required that an airline has a contract with a communication service provider, or that it regularly downloads data from the aircraft to feed it to a stand-alone system (not a common practice anymore). It is also dependent on manual labor from the airline technical clerks to get this data over to the owners.

Check of agreed operations in lease contracts are therefore dependent on either log books, aircraft tracking platforms subscriptions or similar things. There is no quick way of determining if daily activities match agreed ones.

However, an aircraft can operate certain patterns more than another, we witnessed recently that during pandemic newer aircraft were predominantly used in order to grasp the benefits of guarantees and warranty. Due to lockdowns, their contractual patterns were probably significantly skewed flying to one region more than other.

Some gaps named

Such limited awareness of the aircraft use, several potential problems can be seen:

  • Asset status cannot be confirmed live
  • Calculations are dependent on the information coming out from the lessee – laborious and sometimes delayed tasks which cause potential for the next lease contract takes time to negotiate and prepare
  • Cannot market an aircraft with live data close to the end of the lease
  • Cannot quickly determine aircraft/engine/APU status

Aviolog as the solution

Through a crowdsourced system covering ACARS and ADS-B messages, as an owner of a certain asset, a leasing company can get data and health of their aircraft. A system capturing technical and operations data and organizing the analytics in a sensible way. It is there to assist in making good decisions and build knowledge on how an asset is used, giving straightforward option to:

  • Check actual accrual of flown aircraft hours and cycles
  • Confirm life limited parts life straight from the actual flown cycles
  • Control your engine, APU performances on weekly, monthly basis
  • Monitor engine derates straight from the aircraft
  • Confirm route paterns for each MSN coincide with the ones defined in the contract (harsh environment, India, China, CIS routes…)
  • Know which major components are built on the aircraft within certain timeframe directly from the aircraft (engine serial number, APU serial number)
  • Easy and precise calculation of Time Between Overhaul / restoration / major inspection / scheduled MTX event
  • Consensus agreement confirmed and blockchain hashed data for nearly eternal record keeping
