Urban air mobility future capability

The increasing importance of aviation data in the age of urban air mobility

With the increase of drone usage, we feel that there is a gap of where they fly, how to control their movements, locations, know their airworthiness etc. These unmanned air vehicles flying above our heads, literally, are supporting our daily life with some nice features, like crop control, delivery of important equipment where it is needed, such as defibrillators etc. However, they can also be a great pest to our privacy, safety and security.

The importance of our system to the industry, but also to the general public, increases daily whereby there is a need to monitor movements and constant technical airworthiness of drones to the general public.

The increase of the amount of flying over the past decades, reduced vertical separations, removal of traditional airways and routes, platforms-aircraft that allow better or more precise control and monitoring through higher data communication throughput and urban air mobility that at this time is completely unsaturated by traditional means. With that increase in traffic complexity, in the light of aviation safety, public awareness and consequential improvement of overall airspace usage, procedures, environmental impacts etc, we find that current means are not enough, and have sizable room for improvement.
